Location, location, vocation: Despite sitting amid the flamboyant antique shops and art galleries of Hollywood Road, Neighborhood is as discreet as they come. Found in a little courtyard, this French-Italian restaurant comes courtesy of restaurateur David Lai and serves food that resonates with simplicity and style. The restaurant is Lai’s magnum opus.

The vibe: We’re talking minimalist white and grey tones across a simple yet graceful layout with brilliantly dim mood lighting. It’s a cosy, unpretentious setting where the food is largely left to do the talking.

About the chef: Hong Kong-born chef and restaurateur David Lai learnt his trade on the west coast of America, cooking in a number of restaurants across San Francisco before heading back home to play a part in opening Spoon by Alain Ducasse in Hong Kong. With Neighborhood, Lai has created an intimate, pan-European escape with focus on both seafood and local produce.

On the menu: Lai changes the menu on a weekly, sometimes even daily basis, so it’s hard to plan your order. If it’s on, some essential picks are wild boar garganelli, bone marrow and kale risotto, and the local seafood bouillabaisse.
