Acclaimed internationally for its delicious wines, Beronia’s origins date back to the 1970s, when a group of Basque businessmen with a passion for great food and wines would meet to enjoy each other’s company while they were in La Rioja. Such was their love of gastronomy and wine that they soon decided to make their own: buying top plots of land, they planted vineyards and started to build a winery, naming it Beronia and specialising in making top Crianza and Reserva Rioja’s.
Beronia is quintessentially Rioja. Its wines are defined by the region and the soils in which the vines are grown. The name is linked to the history of the area – an homage to the Celtic tribe, the Berones, who roamed through Rioja during the third century B.C. Beronia joined the González Byass “Family of Wine” in the early 80’s, when it began to forge a path and create a name for itself internationally. The González Family has continued to invest in Beronia for over 40 years, culminating in the the opening of a brand new premium winery in 2020, one the very few wineries in Europe with the latest LEED certification, ensuring the most up-to-date and highest sustainability standards.
Today, Beronia is renowned for its distinctive style, created through the unique ageing of the wines in mixed American and French oak barrels. This winemaking technique has won Beronia a place on the menus and tables of the world’s best restaurants, it won accolades at top international awards and found a place within the pages of top magazines such as Wine Spectator’s Best 100 Wines.
